New Jersey Senator Frank Lautenberg passed away this morning at the age of 89. He has been an unwavering advocate for campus fire safety issues and sponsor of the Campus Fire Safety Education Act of 2013, in addition to being instrumental in passage of the provisions of the Campus Fire Safety Right-to-Know legislation in 2008. Senator Lautenberg worked tirelessly in having the national drinking age raised to 21, and also focused on legislation relating to domestic violence and banning smoking on airplanes. He was the oldest member and the last World War II veteran serving in the Senate. This is a tremendous loss for the U.S. Senate and the state of New Jersey.

I cannot say enough how much he has been there for us, and we are going to miss him greatly. Thank you, Senator Lautenberg, for your years of service to the nation and to the cause of fire safety.
