During September, the losses by fire in the Southern States amounted to $2,317,000, distributed as follows: Texas, $459,000; Kentucky, $427, 000; Mississippi, $319,000; Virginia, $278,000; Georgia, $267,000; Arkansas, $192,000; Louisiana, $104,000; Tennessee, $85,000; North Carolina, $72,000; South Carolina, $63,000; Alabama, $35,000; Florida, $16,000. By months during the present year the losses were as follows: January, $3,175,000; February, $2,680,000: March, $3,507, 000; April, $2,303,000; May, $3,850; June, $2,244, 000; July, $2,098,000; August, $4,255,000; September, $2,317,000—total for nine months, $25,529, 000; total for the same period last year, $25,286, 000.
