Sequel to the Graves Fire in Camden.
As a sequel to the fire that destroyed the plant of Craves & Co. at Camden, N. J., that company has been charged with secretly using city water. It is claimed that the firm had laid and utilised daily a 4-in. pipe from the street main into the plant. The company was supposed to use its own private mains. The 4-in. pipe was supposed to supply a fire hydrant on the contany’s premises. The city authorities had a meter placed outside of the connection made to the original main, the result being that in the four years it had occupied the plant it should have paid the city $2,267.94, after the $43 they had paid for water rent during that time had been deducted. The company denies having surreptitiously obtained the 27,000 gal. a day charged for by underhand means and will not only fight the bill, but make the water board retract the accusation. Politics is said to he at the bottom of the charge.
