Sewer Commission Wants $4,000,000 More
The sewerage commission of Milwaukee, Wis., recently sent to the common council a communication asking an increase of from $6,000,000 to $10,000,000 in the amount which can be spent on the city’s new intercepting sewer project. The present law permits $2,000,000 every second year for six years. A bill asking a change in the law to increase the amount and giving the common council authority to say what amount shall be spent from year to year, was sent to Madison on Monday with the hope of securing passage during the present session of the legislature. According to T. Chaulkley Hatton, chief engineer, high prices and war conditions have made the increase necessary. About $3,000,000 of the $6,000,000 has already been issued.
