SHANGHAI FIRE CHIEFS TO ATTEND BUFFALO CONVENTION
Head of the Chinese Fire Department Will Attend the I. A. F. E. Gathering—Will Be Accompanied by Ten of His Suite
CHIEF LIANG ZEE TSUE, the head of the Shanghai, China, fire department, is to attend the fifty-second annual convention of the International Association of Fire Engineers, which will take place in Buffalo, N. Y., on August 19 to 22. The chief, who is one of the vice-presidents of the association, has written to Fire Chief Hedden of Buffalo that “much honor will come to him” through his attendance at the convention, and he asks the Buffalo chief to reserve quarters for himself and “ten of his suite.” In commenting on this, Chief Hedden said: “No Buffalo chief ever travelled in such regal style. Chief Tsue’s letter was couched in the terms of the “pidgin English” of the Chino-English port, and Chief Hedden has preserved it carefully as a valued souvenir of the coming convention.
The list of fire chiefs from foreign countries who have signified their intention of attending the I. A. F. E. convention, according to Chief Hedden, include the following: Chief Pierre Vanginot, Paris, France; Chief Navoi Occata, Tokio, Japan; and Chief Ricardo L. Azcareto, Havana, Cuba. It is expected that several of the English chiefs will also attend the convention.
