Shreveport Plans Fire Alarm Improvements
The commissioners of Shreveport, La., on March 1 accepted the bid of the Gamewell Fire Alarm Telegraph Company for a new fire alarm office and system to be installed in the new central fire alarm station, including the installation of 50 new fire alarm boxes. The bid was $34,900. C. F. Maulen, of the Dallas office of the company, offered to install an additional 50 boxes for $10,500, and this offer was taken under advisement by the commissioners, according to an account furnished by Acting Chief S. J. Flores, of the fire department. The new central fire station is to be a handsome and up-to-date structure, thoroughly fireproof. It will have five doors and the machine shop will be in the rear. The fire alarm office is to be on the second floor. Another feature will be an 80-foot drill tower, with facilities for drying hose, and with a large fire hell surmounting it.
