Signal Men Meet

The quarterly meeting of the New England Section of the International Municipal Signal Association was held in Providence, R. I., on June 8 and 9. H. K. Mann spoke on “The Use of Telediphone in the Municipal Signalling Field” and E. W. Davis read a paper on “Non-Metallic Sheath Cables for Municipal and Utilities Service.” Dr. H. B. Friend discussed “The Control of Carpenter Ants in Telephone Poles.” There was a discussion of the false alarm problem and of other matters of interest to fire alarm superintendents.

Supt. Ames, of Providence, acted as host, and the meetings and banquet were held in the Providence Biltmore Hotel.

The New Jersey Municipal Signal Association held a bi-monthly meeting in Jersey City with William McKenna. Fire Alarm Superintendent, acting as host. Forty members were present. There was a demonstration of traffic signal controls, fire detecting unit, and a practical demonstration of the ground return fire alarm box.

The next meeting will be held at Long Branch on May 19 with Superintendent Dempsey as host. There will be a demonstration of the Gamewell Vitalarm, and a member of the National Board of Fire Underwriters will discuss batteries and rectifiers.
