Spartanburg, S. C., Motorized

Motor Apparatus and Station of Spartanburg, S. C.

The fire department of Spartanburg, S. C., recently disposed of all of its horses and, as will be seen by the illustration herewith, is completely motorized, the apparatus being of American-LaFrance make. Spartanburg is a city of 25,000 inhabitants, and on account of the fact that the Southern Railway tracks cross through the business district and the fire department is frequently held up by a long string of cars when on the way to answer an alarm, the city commissioners are planning to build another fire station, a duplicate of the one shown in the illustration in the district on the opposite side of the track shown. The horses were sold locally and they make strenuous efforts to respond whenever an alarm is sounded.
