Street Surface Box
There has been filed at the patent office at Washington, D. C., under serial number 871,718, an invention relating to street surface boxes, manholes and inspection chambers. The invention, according to the inventor’s specifications, consists of pivotting the cover or lid of the box on a lug instead of pivoting the cover in or to the frame of the box. In the accompanying drawings Figure 4 is a plan of the longitudinal section and Figure 5 is a part transverse section of the box with the lid or cover open. The surface box, or manhole, consists of a combination of a frame, cover, and lug to which the cover is pivoted; a hinge pin is loosely mounted in the lug and slots provided on the inside of the frame for the ends of the hinge pins. Removable locking blocks are also provided for closing the slots to confine the ends of the hinge nin and in this way lock the lug and cover against removal from the frame.
