STUBBORN MANHATTAN FIRE.
Early on Sunday morning last there was a stubborn blaze in the Century building, 33-37 East Seventeenth street, Manhattan. The automatic signal gave first alarm. The firemen found a fire between the ceiling of the second and third floors of the building, and that much damage was threatened. An alarm was turned in from the street box, followed in half an hour by a second and a third alarm. The fire burned for more than an hour before it was under control, and caused $75,000 damage to publishing, oriental rug, and other firms in the building.
