Successful Bond Election in Mobile, Ala.
An election which was held on Monday, September 8, in Mobile, Ala., resulted in the issue being adopted by an overwhelming majority. The results for a proposed new fire and police alarm were: for 2019, against 858, and for fire stations, for 1911, against 884. This will insure the installation of a modern fire alarm system in Mobile and also the erection of two central fire stations. The proceeds of the bonds will give $200,000 for the installation of the alarm system and $175,000 for the construction of the fire stations, which will result in the abolishing of about ten of the smaller department houses, including one in the heart of the business district. Movement is on foot to place the department on the twoplatoon system although this has not been definitely decided as yet.
