Tax Exemption Repeal Should Be Opposed

We feel that there will be about the usual amount of buying by the different cities next year as in the past, and while proposed legislation to eliminate the tax exemption feature of municipal securities might effect the purchasing power of the municipality, we hardly believe it would have any perceptible effect on the fire department purchases owing to the fact that this would possibly be the last department to suffer, owing to the thought that a city would naturally keep their fire department up in lieu of everything else.

“However, we certainly feel this measure should be opposed as we do not believe the Government would be any better off from a tax standpoint, if such legislation were put through, for if the purchasing power of the municipalities is curtailed, naturally, that much less business will he placed, and those who would have enjoyed this business, would therefore, pay the Government that much less in taxes. So where the Government would gain on one end, it would lose on the other.”—Hamilton Rubber Manufacturing Co., makers of fire hose, Trenton, N. J.
