Testimonial to Chief Klein.
A number of the most intimate friends of Chief G. J. Klein of the Allentown (Pa.) Fire Department have given some thought and attention lately to the most appropriate expression from the fire department of their appreciation of the able services of the retiring chief, who steps out of office next Monday, after three years of excellent service. It was finally concluded to have a benefit performance given in Music Hall, the proceeds to be donated to Chief Klein as a testimonial of regard and esteem and in recognition of his many excellent parts and of his untiring and efficient services. The committee has secured “The Fast Mail” for the benefit performance and it will he produced on Tuesday, April u. The co-operation of all the companies will be asked to make the benefit a complete success. In a few instances voluntary tenders of aid came from prominent members of companies. The fund thus raised will be handed to Chief Klein to be used as he sees best. It is understood, however, that Mr. Klein will use it in an effort to rebuild his shattered strength and regain his broken health. He may take a season at some prominent institution for the cure of nervous diseases, in hope of bettering his spine and limbs, which have been severely affected for more than a year. The selling of tickets will be begun this week and no stone will be left unturned to make the benefit what it deserves to be, an unqualified success.
