Thanks for New Bedford Firemen

Mayor Kay, of Fall River, Mass., expressed the warm thanks of the people of Fall River to the fire department of New Bedford, for the prominent part which the New Bedford firemen took in stopping the recent serious fire at Fall River from driving northward and materially aiding in saving St. Mary’s Cathedral during the fire. Mayor Kay said: “Everyone speaks in terms of highest commendation for what your New Bedford firemen did for us. We give them the highest praise of which we are capable. They worked hard and efficiently to save our city. We want to extend to each and every one of them our grateful thanks. We wish, too, to thank the city of New Bedford for the loan of their services and of their apparatus. 1 hope the day may never come when New Bedford will have to call for help from the Fall River fire department. I f that day ever should come, however, T know that the Fall River firemen will be found eager to respond and repay as best they can the debt which we owe New’ Bedford for its assistance. We thank the firemen and we thank the city.”
