The following motion, adopted by the New York Board of Fire Underwriters, speaks for itself:

“New York Board of Fire Underwriters,

“Mutual Life Building, 32 Nassau street (Room 710).”

“New York, December 27, 1895.

“Committee on patents and useful devices:—The chairman of the committee on patents and useful devices reported that his committee had delayed reporting on the efficiency of the Ball Nozzle system, until it had been fully tested by the New York fire department. It has now been adopted for general use by said department, and he moved that this board give the Ball Nozzle its approval as an admirable fire protecting appar. atus. The motion was carried.

“The above is a true excerpt from the minutes of the regular monthly meeting of the New York Board of Fire Underwriters, held November 20, 1895. A. M. Thorburn, secretary.

This popular appliance still gains in the estimation of firemen as a good tool for fire fighting. A large number of orders and inquiries are being received daily by The American Ball Nozzle Company for these excellent nozzles, and it looks now as if every department in the country will be equipped with them. The New London, Conn., Day says;

“This city has adopted the ball nozzle, and is equipping the department with them. At the conclusion of a test recently given here, the sparks from the engine set fire to an awning in front of a store close by. The sidewalk underneath the awning was filled with goods, hammocks, and other inflammable material. The ball nozzle was put on the hose again and turned on the fire, and extinguished tbe fire in a jiffy without deluging the place.”

Chief Wilson of Catskill, N. Y., has also equipped his entire department with ball nozzles, and thinks very highly of them.

The Pacific Coast and far West seem also to have “caught on” to the usefulness of this popular, modem appliance. C. W. Wonderly, chief of the La Junta, Cal., fire department, writes under date of the 16th June: “Send me prices on ball nozzles at once. We are just in from a big fire where the nozzle would have worked O.K. We are all badly burned about the face and neck.” From the protection the ball nozzle gives to the firemen facing a blaze or through smoke, there is not a doubt of the efficiency of this tool.
