The leading article in last month’s FIRE ENGINEERING dealt with fires in concealed spaces. The illustration on the cover of this issue graphically illustrates how fire travels through these hidden areas—in this case, the cockloft, to involve multiple occupancies.

The fire pictured occurred on Nov. 2 last in the downtown business section of Wichita Falls, Texas. Four persons were injured in the four-hour blaze including Fire Chief Thurston Harvic, who was hospitalized. Cause of the fire, which did damaged variously estimated at from $540,000 to $1 million, was not determined.

Fire companies from nearby communities and Sheppard Air Force Base aided local fire fighters to control the blaze.
