The Fresno (Cal.) Department.

The Fresno (Cal.) Fire Department was organized in 1887, and its development has kept pace with the growth of population and increase of wealth of the city. The apparatus consists of I third class Ahrens engine, I third-class Silsby engine, I hook and ladder truck, 50 feet extension ; I double fifty-gallon tank chemical engine, I hose carriage, I hose wagon with two small extinguishers, and 4300 feet of hose. The city maintains a fire alarm telegraph with 12 boxes, of the Gamewell system, with an auxiliary line for the benefit of the members. Another engine, of the second class, built by the Waterous company of Minneapolis, has been contracted for and will be delivered on or before January 17. The department has elected the following officers for the ensuing year : Chief, E. R. Higgins, who succeeds himself ; first assistant, T. G. Hart, who also succeeds himself ; second assistant. C. Inns ; secretary, C. Block ; treasurer, S. Braderick.
