THE HAYES HOOK AND LADDER TRUCKS.
The Hayes Hook and Ladder Truck and Fire Escape combined has received favorable mention wherever shown. It has been in service for a number of years, and is a particular favorite on the Pacific coast, and wherever known. Four of these Trucks are attached to and in service in the San Francisco Fire Department. It is highly endorsed by Chief Scanned, of that Department ; by Chief Hill, of Oakland, who for many years was the very efficient Chief of the Cleveland Fi e Department; Chief McQuade, of Albany, N. Y., who witnessed its workings in California ; Chiefs Cantlin, of Philadelphia, and Hennick, of Baltimore, who have them in service, and are quite enthusiastic over them, and who also propose the present year to add one or more to each ot their Departments, and by many others who witnessed its workings in 1879, when Mr. D. D. Hayes, the inventor, was in the East. It received the endorsement of THE JOURNAL, and the entire press, and we believe it to be the only safe and practicable long ladder before the public. The Truck is complete in all its parts, and a very full description and our endorsement of it will be found in our issue of August 16,1879.
The La France Fire Engine Company, of Elmira, N. Y., have secured from Mr. Hayes, the sole and exclusive right to manulacture and sell these Trucks, and 10 them all communications stiould be addressed. Mr. Hayes is preparing to come East, and will for a time superintend their manufacture. The addition ol this branch of fire apparatus building to the already very large and increasing business ot the La France Company will necessitate a still further extension to their works and an increase to their large force of workmen. We congratulate Mr. Hayes upon his good fortune in inducing this well-known and responsible Company to take held of his invention, and the La France Company in securing the exclusive right to manufacture so valuable a piece of apparatus. All parties contt mplating the purchase of Hook and Ladier Trucks or extension ladders will consult their own interest in first communicating with the La France Company.
