The I. A. F. E. Label
It was eminently a wise and well considered move on the part of the board of directors of the International Association of Fire Engineers at the meeting in San Francisco to recommend to the association the rescinding of its action at Atlanta in providing for labels for fire apparatus and appliances to be used by the association.
No doubt the association should, as FIRE AND WATER ENGINEERING has always maintained, take a leading and authoritative part in the work of standardization in all matters in connection with Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting. This is not only its privilege but also its bounden duty, as the representative body of fire chiefs of the country. But the issuance of labels is a very different matter and besides not being in the province of the association would be an unnecessary and expensive duplication of work done in a far more thorough manner, by other organizations better equipped for such work than the association.
Under these circumstances the board, with a courage born of its members’ convictions, has recommended the rescinding of the label proviso by the association at its coming convention and it would seem certain that the better judgment of the members will agree with its action.
