THE ILLINOIS FIREMEN.
The convention of the Illinois State Firemen’s Association took place yesterday at Champaign. Ill., where every preparation was made by Chief Price and his aides to accommodate the many visitors and afford them every facility for combining business and pleasure. The program included an address from President Draper, of the University of Chicago, whose headquarters are in the city, and the following papers: “Standard rules of the country. Chief J. Myers, Mount Pulaski, president of the association; “The requisite qualifications of a volunteer fire marshal,” Chief John Elder, Carthage; “The genesis of the fire alarm,” President Stover, Gamewell hire Alarm Telegraph Company, of New York; How to enlarge and improve the tournament in Illinois,” Chief A. Clark, Farmington; “ How I train a team,” B. Clark, Mount Carroll. “The Plan ” is the title of a report presented by a committee. It deals with a very practical and very cheap system of accident insurance. Among those invited were Chiefs Swenie, of Chicago, and Chief Paige, of Joliet. There was a good exhibit of apparatus and other things connected with fire service.
