THE INVINCIBLE FIRE SHIELD
is to enable firemen to fight fires at close range. Being made of thin steel plates, with asbestos filling, it is absolutely fireproof. It is moved by two handles inside, without exposing the firemen, even where they would otherwise have to disconnect or abandon the hose and shut off the water. In lumber fires where the heat is so excessive as to necessitate streams to be thrown at such a distance that the water becomes spray before reaching the flames, this shield will be found invaluable and will allow the firemen, even the tallest, to throw an effective stream without risk or inconvenience, as they are protected in front, on top, and on both sides by a shield which, being light (its weight only seventy-four pounds), and so portable (it is forty-eight inches wide and seventy-four inches high, is easily carried by two men under cover to within a few feet of the fire). By means of this shield is avoided the abandonment of several hydrants as at Jacksonville, Fla., and Davenport, la., because of the intense heat, and the consequent destruction of property. With all these advantages in its favor, the Invincible shield will prove itself an absolute necessity for all fire departments. F. W. Shepperd, P. O. Box 128, New York, N. Y., will give all information as to this shield.
