To Celebrate Columbus Day.
Firemen in Illinois will celebrate Columbus Day at La Salle with the following programme:
1. Parade of firemen in uniforms. 2. Review of fire department by city council. 3. Contest for prizes, $10.00, $5.00, $2.00.
First contest. For the company (not more than eight men) throwing water through 200 feet of hose, the hose to be on a reel in bell tower. The company to start at tap of large bell and run to the nearest hydrant. Time to be taken when water appears in a stream from nozzle. Prize to winners, $10.00.
Second contest. Coupling, open to both companies ; as many teams as wish may enter. To make coupling at hydrant, break and make two couplings and put on pipe. Prize to winners, $5.00.
Third contest. The two men composing the team making the second best time in the coupling contest to get a pair of shoes, value $2.00, they to decide which one gets the shoes byrunning a 100-yard foot race.
Four. The fire department to give a grand ball in the evening, to which the public are most cordially invited.
