TO PROTECT CLEVELAND FROM FIRE.

TO PROTECT CLEVELAND FROM FIRE.

Increased fire protection for the mercantile and manufacturing interests of Cleveland, Ohio, being needed, the local Chamber of Commerce has taken up the subject, and asks for an ordinance to be passed for a high and direct fire service system in the most prominent congested wholesale and retail mercantile and manufacturing districts. It would provide for the extension of the fireboat pipe line service, which now goes east only from the river as far as the Public square, by laying high-pressure mains on Superior street, Euclid avenue, Prospect street, St. Clair street and Lake street, as far east as Erie street, and on the following intersecting streets: Erie, Bond and Water, and also an extension along Hudson street. Thus all the downtown territory bounded by Water, Lake, Erie and Huron streets would be given the proposed additional protection. The plans also provides for high-pressure mains to cover the manufacturing district lying east of Erie street, along Hamilton and Lake streets to Willson avenue.
