Twelve new companies went into service in new stations in New York city on Thanksgiving day. Forty-five officers, nine engineers and 90 fourth grade firemen were promoted, and 40 probationary men were appointed the day before. The new battalion chief is Charles R. Griffith. There were 22 lieutenants promoted to a captaincy and 22 privates made lieutenants. There was a large number of transfers in companies throughout the city. The 12 new companies, which are located in the suburban sections, consist of three engine and nine ladder companies. The only important ceremony in connection with the opening of the new stations was at Rockaway Beach, under the auspices of the West End Improvement League. There was a parade with several volunteer fire companies of towns on Long Island outside of Greater New York as guests. A luncheon was served and addresses were made by prominent city and fire department officials.
