Two Illinois Firefighters Collapse Fighting Fire

Two volunteer firefighters were rushed to hospitals Saturday after falling ill while fighting a house fire in Centreville (IL), reports ksdk.com.

At one point everyone had to be evacuated over concerns that the building would collapse. All firefighters made it out safely, though four were overcome by the heat.

Afterwards, a Prairie Du Pont firefighter started feeling ill. She was taken to the hospital. A short time later, a Camp Jackson firefighter also became ill and was rushed to St. Louis University Hospital. Their conditions are not being released.

It’s not clear what made the firefighters sick. Camp Jackson Fire Chief Chris Davis said the heat may be to blame.
