Two Platoons for Meriden, Conn.

The two-platoon system goes into effect at 8 o’clock on the morning of February 15 at Meriden, Conn. This decision was reached by the members of the Board of Public Safety at its meeting on January 2. Chief John F. Donovan has been instructed by his superiors to arrange the details as to the working hours and the arrangements of the two shifts The platoon in this city will be worked on the “ten and fourteen” system with a change, or long day, on the first and sixteenth of the month which is similar to the way the two-platoon is arranged in other Connecticut cities. Five new men to be added to the companies were appointed by the Safety Board. The two-platoon committee appeared at the meeting and expressed the thanks of the members of the department for the installation of the system and promised themselves, and on behalf of the other members, to co-operate in every way possible to promote the welfare and efficiency of the department.
