TX Firefighter Dies After Being Injured in Rollover

Update, 12/4/2012: Firefighter Jalen Smith has died after succumbing to injuries he sustained during an accident last week, KLTV reports (http://bit.ly/11Nflnu). As a young firefighter, Smith grew up at the station, where he spent many years as a junior firefighter and where his grandfather was a founding member.

Three volunteer firefighters were injured Friday night in a vehicle accident in east Texas. One of the three was critically injured and remains on life support.

The firefighters,ho were involved with the Jackson Heights Volunteer Fire Department, were responding in a personal vehicle to their station when the accident occurred, according to KLTV (http://bit.ly/TI86aT).

Jalen Smith, 20, Cornelius Redwine, 21, and Gary Robinson, 21, all of Tyler, were in the vehicle when it rolled over multiple time. Robinson and Redwine were treated and released, whereas Smith remains on life support.

The vehicle’s occupants told investigators that they lost control of the vehicle when another driver pulled out in front of them on the road.
