Tyson is Needed.
The fire department needs Filmore Tyson. The tragic death of Chief Dillon, at a time when the department was more or less disorganized owing to the change in administrations, has left it without a directing head and in serious need of some man with experience and the gift of leadership. These qualifications are possessed by Major Tyson in pre-eminent degree. Throughout the country he is recognized as one of the ablest men who ever commanded a firefighting force. He has the tact and courage that inspire the confidence of his subordinates, and a knowledge of local conditions that at the present juncture is absolutely invaluable. The Board of Pub lie Safety blundered when it let Filmore Tyson go. It has now the opportunity to remedy that blunder. We. are not surprised to learn that strong pressure is being exerted by business men. insurance companies and others who realize the peril that menaces the city under existing circumstances, in order to secure the reappointment of Chief Tyson. Our only wonder is that there should he a moment’s hesitation on the part of the Board of Public Safety. With Tyson available no excuse that will harmonize with a policy of seeking the Pennine welfare of the city can be offered for overlooking him. The question that is up to the authorities is whether they think more of the safety of the life and property of the people of Louisville than of the opportunity to reward some hanger-on of the party with a good job.—Louisville Herald.
