Unfinished Apartment Building Ruined By $100,000 Blaze
An early morning fire of major proportions swept a 48-unit apartment project under construction in Hollywood, Calif. The two-story skeleton was a mass of flames when firemen got the first alarm.
Thirteen companies and 125 firemen under Acting Battalion Chief James Miller battled the flames. Heat was so intense that windows shattered across the. street from the apartment.
Arson investigators searched the debris after a nearby resident said the fire was preceded by “noises like a machine gun” and the sound of a car speeding away. More than three-fourths of the building was ruined and damages were estimated at $100,000 by the building’s owners.
