Waltham to Have a Home Made Ladder.

Waltham, Mass., is to have a new homemade hook and ladder truck added to its equipment the last of September. The city appropriated $2,500 and a local builder took the job. The truck is modeled after ladder truck No. 26 of Boston. The body is to be constructed wholly of steel and the ladder arches are to be of the same material. The truck will carry 291 ft. of ladders. The load is to be carried low down so that each ladder may be gotten out separately and instantly. There will be four cxinguishers located on the side steps. The wagon will be equipped with a band brake of the automobile type. There are going to be side running boards for eight or ten men to ride on. The wagon will be equipped with 50 ft., 38 ft., 12 ft. extension ladders, 30 ft. wall ladder, 30 ft. ladder with folding hooks, two 25 ft., two 20 ft. ladders with folding hooks and 10 ft., 16 ft. and 14 ft. ladders with folding hooks, also four axes, four lanterns, Carleton net, door opener, two crowbars, two shovels, flexible rubber buckets, ceiling cutter, fire hooks and pitchforks. The total weight is to be 5,000 pounds.
