Wants to End Post of Chief

Voters of Akron, Ohio, will decide a very important question at the November election. An amendment is being considered to the city charter which will do away with the office of Chief of Fire Department, and also the Chief of Police Department, to be replaced by a Commissioner of Police and Fire, appointed by the Mayor.

Another proposed reform is to do away with the present system of administering fire and police pensions, through separate boards of trustees and to have one board with three Councilmen, and one man from each of the two departments.
