Waste of Water Causes Shortage
The citizens of Elizabeth, N. J., arc suffering from a lack of water, owing to the habit of many residents of letting the water run all night to prevent freezing of the pipes. In some cases it was not possible during the late cold spell to obtain water on the second floor and there were difficulties even on first floors. The water officials say that the present supply cannot be depended upon to prove sufficient under the conditions and is equally deficient in very hot weather when much water is used for sprinkling and the supply is necessarily lessened at its source. The local press points out that in case of fire, the low pressure might lead to a disastrous conflagration. Metering the services is suggested as a remedy for the evil.
