WATER APPROPRIATES FOR NEW YORK.

For the five boroughs which make up Greater New York the water department asks for a total appropriation of $1,470,184 for general aecontta and $412,000 for salary accounts—an increase of $403-872 in the former, and $39,594 in the latter over 1899 In the Brooklyn estimate there is an item of $30 000 for hydrant rentals, which sum is annually paid to the Flatbush Water company, under contract obtained by the former city of Brooklyn, and still in force. In the Manhattan estimate a total of $250,000 is asked for laying of Croton pipes. $25,000 for additional hydrants for the fire department, and $5,000 for public drinking hydrants.
