WATER DEPARTMENT OF JOHNSTOWN, N. Y.
There are in use in Johnstown, N. Y., 130 water meters as follows: One and one-half-inch, three; three-quarter-inch, fifteen, five-eighth-inch, 112. Of these there are of the Thompson type, ninety, Hersey, four, Buffalo, six, Union, twelve. New fire hydrants have been set, making the total number 145. New main has been laid as follows: Four-inch, 4538 feet; six-inch. 2,977 feet—total 1.42 miles. A large portion was laid by the city at prices ranging from eleven to twelve and one-half cents per linear foot. The total receipts for the year amounted to $26,2×1.38. of which $2,587.04 was from the board of 1896; disbursements, $22,930.12, including $1,855.q8 for money laid out for land damage and costs, interest $3,229.92, put in sinking fund, 1897, $3.500—balance on hand, $3,281.26.
