Water Department Overtaxed, Board Believes

The Providence Water Supply Board this year took care to file a statement of its holdings in the town of Scituate before June 16, the date on which the asessors of that town levy the tax for the year 1920. Last year the city made no statement and its valuation was jumped almost $100,000 by the town over the valuation of the previous year, although it was claimed that little of value had been added to the property in the interim. Last year the city was taxed a total of $1,135,200, of which $729,240 was on buildings and improvements, while $402,560 was on the land. A valuation of $3,400 was placed on its tangible personal property. The year before the total valuation was $1,062,150, of which $680,940 was on buildings and improcements, $377,810 on land and $3,400 on tangible personality.
