Water System of Torrington

Water System of Torrington

The city of Torrington, Conn., has a water system supplied by streams. The impounding reservoir with a capacity of 800,000,000 gallons, is located 225 feet above the business center. The gravity system is employed for water distribution through the 45 miles of cast iron mains, and a liquid chlorine plant sterilizes the supply. Taps to the number of 2,800 are required for the population of 20,000, and of these, 300 are metered with the National make. The average pressure for fire and domestic use is 80 pounds. The plant is owned by the Torrington Water Company, of which F. M. Travis is president. W. E. French is the superintendent.
