Water Works Notes.
Frank Schefold, of New Albany, Ind., has been awarded a contract to build a waterworks and sewer system at Versailles, Ky.; cost, $52,500.
Without waiting for the common council to report on the question of raising $500,000 by sale of bonds for extensions to the waterworks of Detroit, Mich., system, the water commission has asked the board of estimates to give its approval to the project. Several estimators have declared that the resolution is out of order, holding that the hoard of estimates has no power to originate an appropriation. One said the charter stipulates that the council and the board of estimates must concur in favor of the board issue, and that it is proper for the estimators to pass on it before the council has taken action. But the resolution was laid on the table, and the council has deferred action, awaiting more definite information from the water commission concerning what use it will make of the funds.
