Waterworks Question at Sterling.
According to reports from Sterling, Ill, the administration of that city will have on its hands during the year 1910 the job of securing a new waterworks contract for the city. The twentyfive-year franchise of the Sterling Water company, which was passed November 2, 1885, expires on November 2, 1910. The mayor and some of the aldermen elected this spring to serve two years, will, therefore, be in office during the time the water supply matter must lie taken up. The probability is the matter will be taken up. in time, so then it can be all settled before November 2, 1910, when tinSterling Water com pany’s franchise expires The waterworks ordi nance provides that the city has the privilege of buying the waterworks, but as the city cannot raise sufficient funds in any legal manner, that phase of the subject is out of the question. What the city will probably do will be to advertise for bids for furnishing water for another period of years on the best terms obtainable.
