What City Wants a Big Chief Cheap?
Mayor Seidel and the administration officials of Milwaukee need have no fear about getting a man for the head of the fire department in the event that it becomes necessary to secure a successor to Chief Clancy. Ole Johnson, a giant from Spaulding, Wis., is willing to sacrifice his present “yob” as a lumber camp husky and go to Milwaukee to take charge of the fire department. Ole is getting Si a day and “keep” right now in his present employment, and he will not ask any more than that from Milwaukee to start with. Of course if lie makes good Ole hints that lie will expect a $10 or $15 a month raise. Besides offering his own services Ole says he has three brawny brothers that he will bring to help him run tludepartment. Ole’s offer is contained in a letter to the police and fire commission. He writes, as follows:
“To the Mr. mayor Sidel—
Dear Sir—i see by the papers that yu want a good man to run yure tire company, i will take the job i got good job here now one dollar day and keep but will give it up if you want me. Am six feet over and way 210 ponds if you will give me like i am getting here will start work to wunst pleas let me no about this as i will go to milwaukec when i here from you also have thro brothers who will go with me and help me yours,
