Where the Pitometer Might Come In
Hallettsville, Tex., is investigating a strange shortage of water, and the superintendent of the city’s department of water and lights has notified the council of the trouble he is having in keeping the standpipe filled with water. There is quite a waste of water, and the investigating committee is unable to find where the waste is. The street sprinkler has been stopped. Water is usually cut off every night from midnight’ till early in the morning in order to give the superintendent of water an opportunity to fill the standpipe.
The city has two good artesian wells, but the waste is so great that the standpipe can not be kept filled. Every precaution is being taken to keep the standpipe full in the event of fire.
