ABERDEEN, New Jersey (NJ.com) – Firefighters on Thursday battled a wind-whipped blaze that seriously damaged multiple homes in a Monmouth County neighborhood nestled along the Garden State Parkway and sent plumes of smoke visible for miles.
Video from the scene showed flames tearing through at least three homes about 11:30 a.m. on Highfield Avenue in Aberdeen. The air was thick with the smell of smoke even to motorists on the Parkway.
Aberdeen Police Capt. Al Geyer said the fire apparently started in one home and spread to other two homes due to Thursday’s strong winds. He said the fire may have been caused by a faulty, 20-year-old kerosene-fed furnace inside one of the homes.
