WOULD NOT BE CAPTURED.
The fire department, or at least a portion of it was called out in Jersey City, N. J., the other day to rescue a Thomas cat that had been stuck for two days in the branch of a tall tree. The brute, resenting as an intrusion the well-meant efforts of the firemen, retreated upward so rapidly as to render necessary bringing into action the 75-ft. aerial truck. The cat was captured, but was so full of fight that, when halfway down the ladder, he had to lie dropped. As he fell he struck several of the rungs of the ladder, but finally landed in a heap on the truck and then ran off unhurt and not followed by the firemen, whose scars showed what they had gone through.
