York County C.D. Force Includes 30 Departments
Firemen from Toronto and the 29 York County municipalities will form one civil defense team in the event of air attack on the Greater Toronto area as the result of a mutual aid system being organized by the Toronto and York civil defense committee. Plans for the system, which will bring a total of 1,455 firemen and trained volunteers under one command for any emergency that might occur, have been announced by Platoon Chief William McCallum of the Toronto Fire Department.
Core of the service,—which will include firemen from Sutton on the North, Markham on the East, and Woodbridge on the West, will be the 892 firemen, 48 pieces of fire apparatus and one fire boat from the City of Toronto. A secondary force will be made up of 520 suburban firemen, of which nearly half are permanent men. JOHN KARL LEE.
