The Barneveld Fire Station in Oneida County suffered a structural collapse on Saturday at about 5:20 p.m.
According to the Barneveld Fire Department, members were inside the station around 3:00 p.m. when they heard popping sounds and discovered structural damage to the front truss.
Firefighters quickly removed all apparatus and equipment from the building before it became unstable.
Efforts to save the structure included removing snow from the roof with assistance from the Stittville Fire Department’s ladder truck and a local contractor. However, the building was deemed too unstable, and crews were evacuated shortly before the collapse.
The department confirmed that emergency response capabilities remain intact, with frontline apparatus stored at the Town of Trenton Highway Department and reserve equipment housed at the Newport and Floyd Fire Departments. No one was hurt in the collapse.
