A Chicago firefighter was injured during a rescue of a resident, reports CBS Chicago.

The firefighter was being treated at University of Chicago Medical Center and is in serious to critical condition. A witness said he appeared to be overcome by smoke while entering the home.

CORRECTION (1/6/2019): A previous version of this story indicated that a Mayday was declared on scene, however this was incorrect. The down member was rescued prior to a Mayday being declared, according to sources. We regret the error.
