Jan. 30—CLARKSVILLE — One person has died after a duplex caught fire Thursday morning in Clarksville.
Clarksville Fire Department Chief Brandon Skaggs said the structure fire was called in at around 6:30 a.m. in the 700 block of W. Harrison Avenue.
Skaggs said firefighters encountered heavy flames and smoke and a report of a possible rescue of someone inside the duplex.
He said search and rescue operations were underway, and a person was found there dead. The other resident of the duplex escaped with minor injuries.
“Everything is under investigation at the moment,” Skaggs said.
He said the state fire marshal’s office and his department are working to find out the cause of the fire, and the coroner will determine the cause of death.
Skaggs said the firefighters are highly trained and were able to get the fire down within 10 minutes.
“They did their job this morning very well,” Skaggs said.
He said fatalities don’t commonly happen with fires in the area, but said that it’s ultimately a tragedy for the families.
