Feb. 11—EAST HAVEN — An East Haven Fire Department engine was struck in a hit-and-run Tuesday evening while it was driving to a structure fire in the Foxon area, police said.
The engine had its emergency lights on and siren activated as its traveled north on Hemingway Avenue, and it was hit by a red Scion TC that failed to yield and turned directly in front of the truck, East Haven police Capt. Joseph Murgo said in a news release. The crash happened at 6:38 p.m., he said.
“The collision caused significant front end damage to Engine 4, but fortunately, no firefighters were injured,” Murgo said.
Murgo said the Scion’s driver fled and traveled north on Hemingway Avenue before turning west on Edward Street. The vehicle may have had black doors, Murgo said.
“We are asking residents in the area to check their surveillance cameras for footage of the suspect vehicle around 6:38 p.m.,” Murgo said.
The engine also hit a pedestrian crosswalk signal at the intersection of Dodge Avenue and Hemingway Avenue after the crash, Murgo said.
Anyone with more information is asked to call the East Haven Police Department at 203-468-3820.
