Firefighter Injured at Chicago Furniture Store Flashover

A Chicago firefighter was injured in a fire at a furniture store Thursday night.

The fire began around 6 p.m. in the basement of the store, which is located at 112th Street and Michigan Avenue.

Employees at the store were investigating smoke when a flashover occurred in the basement, CBS Chicgo reports.

Heavy smoke from furniture and mattresses in the basement lead to one firefighter becoming disoriented and calling a Mayday.

A rapid intervention team was able to find the firefighter and bring him out of the building.

Freezing temperatures added to the challenges, with firefighters using CTA buses as warming stations.

No one else was injured in the fire.
