SIOUX CITY — Sioux City Fire Rescue continued to be at the scene Wednesday morning at the Country Estates of Morningside apartment complex, where a fire broke out late Tuesday afternoon fire.
Firefighters responded to a 22-unit building at the complex, 1331 South Maple St., at 4:30 p.m. Gray smoke could be seen billowing from patio doors on the second and third floors of the apartment building on the west side of the complex.
“We had crews at the site overnight and we’ll be going back this morning,” Sioux City Fire Rescue’s Joe Rodriguez said, explaining that crews were concentrating on hot spots on the apartment building’s roof.

Residents are being assisted by the American Red Cross.
“Our volunteers continue to assist those affected by yesterday’s apartment fire,” said Tammy Lee, executive director of the Red Cross Serving Northwest Iowa & Northeast Nebraska. “We are addressing the immediate needs of the residents, with our primary focus on ensuring they have (a) safe place to stay and warm meals, while also assessing health and mental health needs.”
