Indianapolis Firefighters Rescue 84-Year-Old Woman from House Fire Moments Before Roof Collapse

An 84-year-old woman is in critical condition after being rescued from a house fire in Indianapolis.

The fire broke out Monday just after 4:30 a.m. on Windy Ridge Drive. When firefighters arrived, the house was 80 percent engulfed in flames, FOX 59 reports.

Firefighters had to break through a window to enter the burning home, where they found the elderly woman unconscious in her bed. Minutes after her rescue, the roof of the home collapsed.

The woman was rushed to Eskenazi Hospital, where she remains in critical condition.

The cause of the fire is still under investigationare working to piece together what sparked the deadly blaze.
